The Secret Circle : Diana Meade

Diana Meade by Shelley Hennig
Diana Meade is the daughter of Charles Meade and Elizabeth Meade, ex-girlfriend of Adam Conant, and also the female leader of The Circle.
Diana and her group of friends aren't like most kids there age. Diana,Adam, Cassie, Faye, Melissa, and Nick (R.I.P) make up what is known as a circle of witches. The Secret Circle is a powerful coven that consists of at least six witches or more. Although it is known that every witch is born into a circle, The Secret Circle is possibly one of the most powerful covens in existence. Diana and the rest of are descendents of the The Secret Circle. Sixteen years ago, the former members of The Secret Circle, their parents, began to dabble in the dark arts of magic. Along their journey, an "accident" occurred which left majority of the members dead. The only known survivors were Amelia Blake, Charles Meade, Dawn Chamberlain, and Ethan Conant. After the circle was stripped of their powers, Amelia [Cassie's Mother] abandoned her coven by moving to Los Angeles with her unborn baby. Determined to reunite the coven, Charles Meade killed Amelia in order to lure her daughter, Cassie, back to Chance Harbor, Washington so that The Circle could be together once again.

That is where the story begins. Faye decided that it would be fun to get Cassie to use her powers by setting her car on fire. Little did she know at the time, Cassie had no idea of her powers. Insert worried Diana and Adam and they immediately realize the cause of the fire, and the fact that Cassie knows nothing of the power inside her. After the discovery of Cassie's car accident, Diana confronts Faye Chamberlain and warns her about the dangers of their powers. The following day, Diana introduces Cassie to their coven, and tries to teach her about their families' legacy of witches.

Cassie of course thinks that they are all crazy. Later that night, as Faye conjures a massive thunderstorm, Diana attempts to stop her but is struck by lighting. She then starts trying to encourage the others to join her in binding the circle as it could be dangerous otherwise, keeping the secret that once the circle is bound, members of the circle can only do magic in pairs. The strength of the magic depends on how many members of the circle there are.
As the weeks passed, Diana and Adam's relationship began to falter. Adam's father made it known to Diana that Adam and Cassie's relationship was written in the stars. It was predestined, and it was going to happen. No matter what Diana did that thought kept haunting her. She knew that she would never be the girl he wants. On the night of Nick's wake, Diana went to The Boathouse Bar and Grill and broke up with Adam.

Appearance & Personality
Diana is clearly a beautiful girl, as illustrated in her picture. She has long, beautiful brown hair that's the same color as her eyes. She is very loyal and will do whatever it takes to protect her friends, family and anyone else she cares for. Diana is the head of the circle which means she is very protective of it and also a very strong leader. She loves Adam and is worried that Cassie will come between them after seeing the obvious connection between the two of them. She's very intelligent and smart. Also, the way Adam keeps looking at Cassie has her wary. Although Adam has promised her that there is nothing going on between them, Diana can't help but worry. She's being very careful and befriending Cassie to protect her relationship.

Relationship
Melissa Glaser
Melissa's cousin Holden comes to town to try to cheer Melissa up after Nicks death. Diana used to have a crush on Holden when they were younger. Diana and Holden start to bond and it helps her get her mind off of Adam. Melissa tells Diana that Holden is not a rebound guy and not to hurt him. Diana is unaware of her feelings and does not want to ruin her friends ship with Melissa.

Adam Conant

He was Diana's boyfriend and her best friend at the beginning of the series. Diana is in love with Adam and he is in love with her as well, but after Cassie's arrival in town their relationship takes a major fall, becasuse Diana cannot understand the way Adam looks at Cassie. She breaks up with Adam after Ethan Conant, Adam's father, tells her about Cassie and Adam being destined to be together, because she wishes to have the type of love Cassie and Adam are said to have.

Cassie Blake

Diana greets Cassie warmly when she arrives and shows great care towards wanting to delay telling Cassie about her being a witch, because she is still dealing with her mothers death. Even after she notices Cassie's connection with her boyfriend she doesn't blame her and continues to try to be friends with Cassie who rejects her friendship at first but later accepts it at the end of Loner. In Wake, after she breaks up with Adam, she goes to Cassie who comforts her and later tries to help Adam get back together with her in the season one episode Masked when Luke is about to kill Diana, Cassie unknowingly unleashes her dark magic killing him to protect Diana, showing that Cassie cares about Diana and their growing friendship.

Faye Chamberlain

True frenemies, Faye does not like Diana very much because of her insistence off the group being careful with magic, whereas Faye wants to use magic recklessly. Also Diana's position as the Circle's leader only makes Faye dislike her. Although Faye never seems to hide her feelings about Diana, Diana does not have a problem with Faye as shown by her happiness when her father tells her that he and Faye's mother are dating.

Charles Meade

Diana's father. She has a very close relationship with her father and he loves her very much. Charles knows his daughter enough to know that she would leave the Meade Book of Shadows at the Circle's hideout, where it would be safest. Charles is very protective of his daughter and he makes this fact very clear to Dawn Chamberlain. However, when her grandmother Kate comes to town, she actually tells Charles that Adam and Diana broke up, when he didn't know anything.
