Nick Armstrong by Louis Hunter
As a child, Nick lost both of his parents due to an "accidental" tragedy. Currently, Nick stays with his aunt and uncle next-door to Jane Blake. After the arrival of Cassie Blake, Nick spied on her under the orders of Adam Conant. Despite his bad boy attitude, Nick seemed to have a special affection for Melissa Glaser.
In the books Nick is considered as the typical bad boy. He drives a muscle car and he formerly dated Faye, and is single when Cassie first meets him. Cassie looked for the first time at Nick and Jake through the window of her house. Both Nick and Jake greet Cassie with "Hi, neighbor ".
He has no interest in her at first romantically, or as friends, though he does save her life and help her on ocassion, which leads Cassie to ask him to a dance, to which he refuses her rudely. After she leaves almost in tears he runs after her, and asks when he should pick her up. At this dance Cassie is dressed like a Muse, stunning Adam and Nick and leaving Adam lamented when he realizes the look is for Nick and not him. The two dance when she is running from the attentions of other boys. She finds him a surprisingly pleasant and calm person to be near. Over the next few days Nick tells Cassie that he knows that she loves Adam, but that in spite of that he thinks they could have a shot at something good and simple. Cassie is shocked, and only grows more stunned, as he begins to tell her how this came about and all the things he started to "notice about her" like how her hair is all different shades, the sweet doe quality to her eyes, her bravery and more. In the end Cassie decided to try a relationship with Nick, to his surprise and delight.
The two share a short but good relationship, she grows to care for Nick immensely but in the end she knows, that she can't be with him romantically due to her feelings for Adam. Nick accepts this calmly and tells her she's like no one he has ever known and he is glad he met her. The two become close friends and when Cassie and Adam finally do end up together, Cassie and Nick share a look of perfect understanding, as she realizes he knows her better than anyone.
